Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef 90% lean
  • 2 cups hot cooked white or brown rice
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Sliced green onions for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  • Begin by heating a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef along with the minced garlic, breaking up the beef into small crumbles as it cooks. Continue cooking until the beef is no longer pink, then drain off any excess fat.
  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, red pepper flakes, and black pepper. Whisk the mixture until well combined. Pour this sauce over the cooked beef, stirring gently to ensure the beef is evenly coated. Let it simmer for an additional minute or two, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • To serve, spoon the beef mixture over hot cooked rice. Garnish the dish with freshly sliced green onions and a sprinkling of sesame seeds for added flavor and visual appeal.
