Ingredients

  • Dried beef chopped (1 jar, 8 ounces)
  • Butter 2 tablespoons
  • All-purpose flour 2 tablespoons
  • Warm milk 1 ½ cups
  • Cayenne pepper a pinch
  • Bread toasted

Instructions

  • Begin by assembling all necessary ingredients.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk until the mixture is smooth.
  • Gradually incorporate the warm milk, adding it slowly and whisking thoroughly after each addition. Increase the heat to medium-high, bringing the mixture to a boil while stirring until it thickens.
  • Fold in the chopped dried beef and cayenne pepper, cooking until the beef is heated through.
  • Serve the creamy mixture generously over the toasted bread.

Notes

Recipe Tip: This dish can also be prepared using 3/4 pound of browned and drained hamburger meat, offering a hearty alternative to the traditional dried beef.
