Ingredients

  • ½ whole salmon fillet deboned
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • ½ - ¾ teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • ½ lemon juiced and zested
  • 3 cloves garlic grated
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Method

  1. Preheat the Oven
  2. Begin by preheating your oven to 180°C (350°F) or 160°C for a fan-assisted oven.
  3. Prepare the Butter Mixture
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the butter, grated garlic, Cajun seasoning, red chili flakes, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Stir until the ingredients are well incorporated into a smooth paste.
  5. Prepare the Baking Tray
  6. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and lightly spray it with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Place the salmon fillet on the prepared tray.
  7. Apply the Butter Mixture
  8. Generously spread the seasoned butter mixture over the top of the salmon fillet, ensuring it’s evenly coated.
  9. Bake the Salmon
  10. Bake the salmon in the preheated oven for approximately 15 minutes. Every 5 minutes, baste the salmon with the remaining butter mixture to keep it moist and flavorful.
  11. Add the Honey Glaze
  12. In the final 5 minutes of baking, drizzle the honey over the salmon and, if desired, sprinkle a few more chili flakes to enhance the spice level.
  13. Garnish and Serve
  14. Once baked, remove the salmon from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve with your preferred side dishes such as roasted potatoes, rice, or a crisp green salad.

Notes

Frozen Salmon: If using frozen salmon, be sure to thaw it in the refrigerator overnight for best results.
Cutting the Salmon: For quicker cooking, you may opt to cut the salmon into smaller fillets, ensuring more even cooking.
Avoid Overcooking: Be cautious not to overcook the salmon, as it can become dry. The salmon is perfectly cooked when it flakes easily with a fork.
